Capella University was founded in 1993 and was initially known as The Graduate School of America. Stephen Shank and Dr. Harold Abel founded the establishment. Both have impressive professional and educational backgrounds. Abel was the interim director of Castleton State College, Walden University, and Central Michigan University. Sank was the head of the Tonka Corporation as CEO. They were quick to get recognition for the university and were awarded accreditation in 1997.
The college was changed to Capella University and added undergraduate programs in 2000. In 2008, it was apparent that the Capella Education Co. was sufficient to take over most of the office buildings in Minneapolis. The building was then changed to Capella Tower. Capella Tower. The majority of the office staff is now located in this building. The growth and success in the development of Capella University led to the closure of the open enrollment policy in 2010. In the time, Capella University earned the CHEA Award for Outstanding Institutional Performance in the area of Student Learning Results. This award was awarded to four schools, which ensured an outstanding performance from its recipients.
