Working dad with newborn: My husband rises around 5 a.m. every day, before sunrise. He then boarded trains and heads for downtown, from where he’s able to work to teach students in high schools English. When he returns home, we throw our two noisy monkey-boys right in front of him as I cook dinner. After dinner, we finish the chores, and then I return to my bedroom for work while he gets our kids into their pj’s and helps them settle to sleep.

Looks like a decent person, doesn’t he? I’m thinking the guy is hot enough to be hot. However, fatherhood looks mighty great on his face. This is the cherry on the cake. This man, this exhausted man who has to work his tail off to feed his family, doesn’t quit parenting even whenever the light goes out. He is there whenever the kids require us at the end of darkness, which is something he always does.

Our kids aren’t exactly the most sleepy people. The occasional night-time awakening is quite common here. It doesn’t matter if it’s babies that require being rocked and soothed, toddlers that require an extra glass of water or children who are vomiting or experiencing dreams; our husband gets up to assist just as I do.

You know what? It should not be a thing to be noted, even if it is. It certainly gets me all hot and annoyed when I consider what a wonderful dad he’s been, but pay attention: All dads should be able to help out in the evening. Every partner must. If you and someone else have one with each other, adopted one or are the parent for one of them in any manner, shape or form, there’s nothing to say or excuse that could disqualify any of you from attending to your children at night.

I’ve heard excuses for this: “Oh, but he is so busy. He needs time off.” I can understand this. I truly do. But, guess what? You also work hard. No matter if you work at home, at a home from home or just stay home for the day with your children, You’re working like hell. You’re exhausted, too. Why is this man who takes the easiest way out of the night?
