twin towers malaysia
Twin towers malaysia: The Petronas twin towers are the national symbol and must-have photo for foreigners visiting our country. These are some facts that you may not have known.
Mahathir, then our Prime Minister, rejected the first Cesar Pelli designs because he didn’t think it was Malaysian enough.
“He wanted a building that was distinctively Malaysian, of high-quality standard, and of which Malaysians could be proud.”
Pelli was initially unable to grasp what “uniquely Malaysian” meant. Mahathir Mohamad eventually understood the vision he had for the towers. It was an eight-pointed star, which, when seen from the top in Islamic culture, represents “unity,” harmony, stability, and rationality. Pelli was concerned that the new design would limit floor space.
The problem was solved by adding semicircles at each of the inner angles. Each tower now has 43,600 sq. yards (36.455 m2) of floor area, with an additional circular annex that stands 44 stories high.
The original design was intended to rise to 1,400 feet (427m). But Dr. Mahathir realized that it could be taller than this building if he made some adjustments. He pushed for its height to be increased in every way.
Numerous structural facts needed to be recalculated and then tested in wind tunnels. The dome was topped with an integrated pinnacle and reached 1,483 feet (452m) above the Sears Tower.
