Ohio state sesquicentennial: Two Ohio State University College of Medicine students are among 150 to be awarded sesquicentennial scholarships. These scholarships honor the 150th anniversary of the university and will be celebrated during the 2019-20 academic year. Andrew Branstetter (a fourth-year student in emergency medicine) and Melanie Russell (a second-year medical student) were selected through an application process that was subject to review by the selection committees of both the College of Medicine and the university.
Sesquicentennial Student Scholar Leader Program is part of the university’s sesquicentennial celebration. It demonstrates the university’s commitment to increasing educational accessibility and affordability while also recognizing students’ academic and non-academic achievements and diverse interests.
Russell and Branstetter both say they are honored by the recognition. It was a result of self-submitted applications. The applicants were asked to tell why they wanted to be a Buckeye.
Russell, who has an Ohio State undergraduate degree, started in middle school in the Young Scholars Program at the university and said, “Becoming a Buckeye is one of the most important decisions I’ve made.” “I am proud to be a part of an ethnically diverse community that celebrates diversity.
Branstetter began his Ohio State career as a presidential scholar in 2012.
