High Rollers premiered on the 1st of July 1974 as part of NBC’s daytime lineup. From September to September, a second series was introduced in the syndicated form and aired weekly at local radio stations. Both shows ended in 1976, with the daytime show being canceled on June 11, the 11th of June, 1976. Alex Trebek was the host of these shows. The show premiered on April 24th, 1978. NBC introduced the High Rollers back with Trebek hosting the show, and it aired until June 20th, 1980. At that point, it was among three series that were canceled in order to make room to make room for The David Letterman Show. The show was produced by Heather-Quigley Productions.
The year 1987 saw Merrill Heatter, working on his own since the departure of his production partner Bob Quigley’s departure in 1981, teamed up with Orion Television and its subsidiary Century Towers Productions to revive High Rollers with Wink Martindale as the host. The series debuted in a daily broadcast on the 14th of September, 1987, and was aired with new episodes through May 27 the year 1988. Reruns were broadcast until September 9, 1988.
In the year 2017, Buena Vista announced plans to revive the show collaboration together with Orion Television, the holders of the Heatter-Quigley Production library. Orion is a company that is a subsidiary of MGM Television. Heather was offered the position of consultant and producer of this revival. However, I was too sick to take on it. Heather died from cancer on the night of Oct. 8th in 2017, just one week after the revival premiered in syndicated form. Jeff Foxworthy was named the host of the revival, with Edd Hall on the announce team.
